A trip on the London Eye

You hear some people talking about what London has to offer the average tourist, and no one ever mentions the London Eye! Of course when it was first commissioned it was a bit of a laughing stock. People seemed to think that it was a big waste of tax payers’ money, and there was real disillusionment about it. I always thought it was a good idea and I couldn’t think of a better way to commemorate London than to have an attraction that let you see more of the city than any other vantage point you care to think of.

Disgruntled by the fact that people seemed to poo poo this monument to modern architecture I decided that I would definitely visit the London Eye on my forthcoming trip to the Capital. I searched online for cheap hotels in London near to the London Eye and found somewhere within a couple of miles. If you can see the Eiffel Tower you seem to be inexplicably drawn to it and I was hoping that the same would be the case with the Eye.

I have to say that this was indeed the case. The whole time I was in the area, I just kept looking up at it. It has such a striking design, in some ways it looks totally out of place but in others it could have been there forever.

Riding the London Eye was an experience that I won’t forget in a hurry. I have to say that I fall into a different category from the people that say it was a waste of money. I think it is a fantastic structure, and the view from the top will stay with me for the rest of my life.
