Taking Precautions in the More Rustic Tropical North

If you are searching for an area that is not fully developed you should travel to Queensland, as some of the places there, such as the Tropical North is still a wilderness. It’s not a bad thing because there are lots of tourists here on a regular basis and more are coming every year. But you should use some good sense while you are in an area that is mostly wilderness.

Crime in Australia is very minimal compared with the rest of the world but use common sense and be precautionary. Lock your car after putting your valuables and other personal things out of sight in the trunk, this ensures no one sees something in your car they think they need or want.

Swimming in the beautiful ocean here is a pleasure but you should know there are shark attacks in Australia, they are rare, but they can be fatal. There is shark netting on the beaches that help keep the sharks away from the shore, but you still must adhere to the beach guards and the warning flags. They will help guide you to the safest spots to swim, but you should still never swim by yourself. Be aware of all the rules in place so that you don’t run into trouble.

When embarking on a rustic adventure, such as this make sure you are prepared. Prepare your vehicle with the supplies you will need in case you are stuck. Make sure that you have a GPS navigation system to help you find your way around and some good maps. Taking a mobile phone with you is advisable but the more remote the area the less likely you are to get a signal, so don’t rely on that to get you out of a jam quickly, you could be stranded for a while and you need to make sure that you are as prepared as you can be for that event.

Wilderness areas can be a wonderful place for a vacation destination but you must be sure to do some good planning for your travels. Be sure to share your itinerary with another person in order to have someone to be able to contact authorities if you don’t check in when you should.
